Nullifiers of Islam

Part 1: The Blessing of Islam

All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all worlds. He is the Most Merciful and the Most Kind. There is no true happiness except by obeying Allah, and no true peace except by remembering Him. When Allah is obeyed, He rewards. When people make mistakes and repent, He forgives. When people ask Him, He answers. When they seek protection, He protects them. We believe that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah alone, and that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger. Allah tells all people to fear Him. Allah created all people from one soul and He watches over everything we do.

Part 2: Islam Is the Greatest Gift

The greatest gift from Allah is being guided to Islam.

Allah tells us that:

  • He guided people to faith.
  • Islam is a complete religion.
  • Every blessing comes from Allah.

Being born Muslim is not something everyone receives. It is a very special blessing.
Even the parents of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ were not given Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said: “My father and your father are in the Fire.” The Prophet ﷺ visited his mother’s grave and cried. He was allowed to visit her grave but he was not allowed to ask forgiveness for her. Abu Talib, the Prophet’s uncle who helped and protected him, also did not accept Islam and died without it.

Part 3: Islam Can Be Lost

Islam is a great blessing but it can be lost. A person can lose Islam by saying or doing something that Allah forbids. Allah tells us that some people disbelieved after they believed. Just like wudu can be broken, Islam can also be broken. Things that break Islam are called nullifiers of Islam.

Part 4: Types of Nullifiers of Islam

Nullifiers of Islam are divided into three types.

1. Nullifiers by Speech

These include:

  • Insulting Islam
  • Making fun of Allah, the Qur’an or the Prophet ﷺ
  • Making fun of Islamic rules such as hijab or the beard

Allah says that making fun of Allah and His religion is disbelief.
Some people say bad words when they are angry. These words can take them out of Islam. Some people ask dead people for help instead of asking Allah. This also breaks Islam.

2. Nullifiers by Actions

These include:

  • Stepping on the Qur’an
  • Bowing or prostrating to graves or idols
  • Slaughtering animals for someone other than Allah
  • Leaving the prayer

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Between a person and disbelief is leaving the prayer.”

3. Nullifiers by Belief

These include believing that:

  • Someone other than Allah knows the unseen
  • Human laws are better than Allah’s law
  • The Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ is not important
  • Another religion can lead to Allah
  • Jews and Christians are not disbelievers
  • What Allah made haram is halal
  • What Allah made halal is haram

All of these beliefs cancel Islam.

Part 5: The Danger of Losing Islam

Losing Islam is very dangerous. A person who loses Islam:

  • Cannot enter Paradise
  • Will go to the Fire
  • Loses all good deeds like prayer, fasting, and Hajj

Allah says that whoever associates partners with Him will not enter Paradise.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “No one will enter Paradise except a Muslim.”

Part 6: Paradise and Hell Are Very Close

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Paradise is very close, and Hell is also very close.” This means our choices matter every day.

Part 7: Be Careful With Your Tongue

The tongue is very dangerous.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“A person may say a good word and Allah raises him.”
“A person may say a bad word and fall into Hell.”

Always think before speaking.

Part 8: Innovations Are Dangerous

Religious innovations are dangerous and can lead people away from Islam.

These include:

  • Made-up acts of worship
  • Sufi dancing
  • Group du‘a after prayer
  • Seeking blessings from people or objects in a religious way

Part 9: How to Stay Firm on Islam

One of the best ways to stay firm is making du‘a. Allah teaches us to say: “O Allah, do not let our hearts turn away after You guided us.”

We also ask Allah every day: “Guide us to the straight path.”

Dua (Supplication)

O Allah, guide us among those You have guided.
O Allah, keep us firm on Islam, Tawheed and the Sunnah.
O Allah, do not let our hearts turn away after guidance.
